Lenovo Legion 5i vs Lenovo Ideapad Pro 5i

Let’s talk about the Lenovo Legion 5i and the Lenovo Ideapad pro 5i!

This is more of a general discussion, and one that I have only seen one comparison of on Youtube with the Yoga 9i, here is the link:

Now the Legion 5i and Ideapad 5i are vastly different laptops with vastly different power capabilities and use-cases. But with the right sale, they are about the same price (sort of). I just bought for myself the Legion 7i, and while the device definitely could have used at least a 5070ti it is the best laptop for its price in my opinion. The lower tiers are what I am looking at now to buy as a gift/investment for my brother as he starts high school and ideally it will last him through college. The longevity of the laptop is not my concern (no laptop realistically lasts 8 years and does well), but my thought process is that with seemingly similar specs, (arrow lake H or HX processor, nvidia 5050/5060 graphics, etc.) the main differences that I see are the cooling solution on the legion and the fact that the Ideapad may have better battery life and advanced Optimus.

Let’s talk about it since I think both of these laptops are great for students who code and like to do some gaming, what are the key details that I am missing like wattage and performance? How big of a difference is it really and what would you pick and why?

I think that the IdeaPad Pro is best for the use case you are describing , it will have better battery life and efficiency however you can also check a premium Lunar Lake laptop like the Thinkpad X9 15 or Lenovo Yoga 9i 2 in 1 since models like these have the best battery life for college and students and basic tasks

IdeaPad pro 5i and legion 5i have these differences:-

  1. Undervolted gpu in the IdeaPad
  2. Good cooling solution in the legion.

For a highschool student definitely Go for a legion as as a highschooler you will play a lot of games and with the legion you can edit videos, play games, do anything on it. So good for exploration. The IdeaPad pro is more of a generic laptop that most people have. You will get good battery life on it. So choose the legion if he’s into games and choose the IdeaPad pro if he doesn’t care about games and he wants something that can give a good battery life. (Obviously personal preference also matters, try to find what kind of laptop he desires).
