If you do video editing and 3D work often (e.g. at least once a week), I would recommend getting a laptop with a dedicated GPU like the LOQ you mentioned. Otherwise, a gaming laptop really doesn’t fit the student lifestyle, a small exception being models like the Zephyrus G16 which costs upwards of 3k new. If you want to risk it, I’ve seen the G16 with an RTX4060 go for around 1.2k on the second hand market in Germany.
If you are keen on getting the Ideapad pro, you should get the 255H version in my opinion. Of course, don’t forget to look at benchmarks and reviews to make up your mind, but a 100 Euro difference justifies the performance gain.
For your use case you definitely need a dedicated GPU like a nvidia rtx GPU. I wouldn’t recommend the Lenovo LOQ because one of my friends had bought a Lenovo LOQ 2024 and faced too many problems with it. He had motherboard issue, driver issues- which was resolved thanks to lenovo’s easy customer support here. Fan noise and battery life was a very huge problem for him since he is a university student, he got fed up and a few months ago he sold his laptop to buy the Lenovo yoga 7i with the core ultra 7 255H and arc 140T which is a thin and light laptop for studies (He initially bought the Lenovo LOQ because he wanted to game on it).
In a tight budget, I suggest you to buy any laptop with dedicated GPU- even a 5050 or a 4060 would suffice for your usecase. The intel Arc 140T is better than the 130T not by a huge margin but these igpu are not feasible for your usecase. I recommend buying an old or a refurbished product if you are on a tight budget.
The arc 140T can be a good choice if your 3D modeling tasks and video editing tasks are not heavy. Will you be doing 3D modeling tasks professionally? Light video editing can be done well in the 140T (1080p - 1200P)
I think I’ll go with the Ideapad Pro after all. It’s unlikely that I’d be satisfied with the overall quality (screen, build, keyboard) of any gaming laptop in my price range.
I also think so, but at the same time, it’s possible that, for example, due to cooling issues, the 255H isn’t much more powerful in this case. I haven’t found any reviews or tests of these specific models.
I don’t think I’ll be doing 3D modeling or video editing professionally. I need a laptop more for learning this kind of stuff.
In Germany you may find a IdeaPad pro with an RTx 5050 or 5060. 3D modeling In university level could be medium to heavy- if this is going to be your only daily driver then it would be wise to get the laptop with a dgpu. You can switch between the igpu and dgpu to save battery. If a GPU is not available with the IdeaPad pro then look for lenovo yoga with a dgpu. The Lenovo yoga has a better screen and keyboard compared to the IdeaPad pro.
