Which is ideal... Legion 5 or Legion Pro 5i

Hi there,

I’m a relative newbie to laptop specs.

Could you advise if these are good deals and which is better?

Use is for data science/analytics, AI work and coding. Not much gaming (for now).

Are these overkill?

Also… why is this Pro 5i so much pricier. Does GPU and build really warrant $700 difference?

The 700 CAD difference is because the legion pro 5i had better display, better CPU, more RAM, the pro 5i is bigger, bigger battery in the pro 5i. And the legion pro 5i is relatively thicker than the legion 5 since the cooling solution in the pro 5i is better. Tell me of I’m wrong but for data science RAM is key since you need a good amount of RAM to load big data sets. Thats why I like the laptop with 32 GB RAM. and the chip in the legion pro 5i is miles better than the AMD chip used in the legion 5. The 700 CAD difference is definitely justifiable given it uses a more expensive and better chip and has a bigger frame and better cooling solution.

Sorry for the confusion. The price difference 8nquiry was between these 2 items, which as far as I can tell only have a different GPU, 5060 vs 5070 ti.

Lenovo Legion Pro 5i Gaming Laptop 16" OLED Intel Ultra 9-275HX GeForce RTX 5060 32GB 1TB Windows 11 Home, 83F3001FCC

Lenovo Legion Pro 5i Gaming Laptop 16" OLED 165Hz Intel Ultra 9-275HX GeForce RTX 5070 Ti 32GB 1TB Windows 11 Home, 83LU000BCC

The latter has a better GPU with more VRAM.

My bad, the 5070Ti has 12 GB of vram and the 5060 that has only 8 GB of vram. Is the 5070Ti worth the 700 CAD jump? It depends on what you will be using this for. If you were to use this laptop for hardcore gaming or AI development tasks then the 5070 Ti would have been recommend. Thankfully you do not need the 5070 Ti since the 5060 can most definitely handle everything you throw at it. Im not well versed in the system requirements for data analytics, I just know you need a lot of RAM for loading large data sets. So it’s totally up to you to decide if the 5070 TI is worth to buy, because for the things that I mentioned above- the 5070 Ti is recommend.
