Hello,
A quick backstory, I am the type of person to keep a device for multiple years. Last month my personal laptop’s monitor gave up (I can use external monitor but decided to let go of the laptop itself). This laptop served me for about 9 years now (ASUS TUF GTX 1060 damn its ancient). I decided to let this little war machine rest after several years of usage. And I think it’s time to splurge a little bit. I am thinking of either buying the 7i or the pro 5. I use my laptop for light gaming such as Dota 2, Valorant and some media consumption . But this time I am planning to use it for light gaming and some heavy games, maybe Witcher / Wukong like games. Will also use it for media consumption as well as a device for upskilling (learning new shit in this endless evolution of tech. Damn I just want to be a farmer (IYKYK)). And here I am folks in a dilemma on which unit should I buy. Your insight will be much appreciated.
well first of all, whats your budget? bc the Legion 7 and Pro 5 are kinda 2 different types of laptops, its more fair to compare them with their direct competitors at same price rather than with each other
My budget is around 1500 to 1600, I am waiting on Back to School sale or maybe Black Friday (maybe BTS since BF is on November).
These are my choices as of now (Best Buy Prices) + all 32 GB RAM
- 7i (utra 7 255hx + 5060) - Currently 1870
- pro 5 (Ryzen 7 8745 HX + 5060) - Currently at 1660
- pro 5 (Utra 9 275HX + 5070 ) - Currently at 2040
Aside from Lenovo, Asus is also one of the brands I trust. Zephyrus series is a little out of range on my budget.
- Asus TUF F16 (i7-14650HX + 5060) - Currently 1540
I am expecting may a 20-30% off during sale. Longevity is also a big factor since I dont upgrade yearly
Yea just get the Legion 7i
giving up +15% performance by picking a 5060 over 5070, is worth it for a much nicer to live with laptop
Oh, that will be a security hole… ![]()
In all seriousness, I do think that the RTX 5060 vs 5070 is not too different because of the 8 GB of vRAM. I’d also probably go for the Legion 7i, as that is a much more premium laptop.
