Laptop for Attorney

Hello!

I’m looking for a Windows laptop to use for work. It has to be Windows because some of the programs I use for discovery review are only on Windows. I like Lenovo, but I’m not committed to it.

My day-to-day use includes:

  • At least 2-3 tabs open in my browser at once
  • Discovery review which includes using Cellebrite Reader (can use a lot of power depending on the size of the device I’m reviewing), VLC or WatchGuard player, and Adobe.
  • Writing/note-taking on the usual Microsoft apps

I want a laptop that:

  • Can run these tasks (especially videos) without getting spicy (fan noise, heat)
  • Has a 15”-16” screen
  • Has a better resolution than 1920 x 1200 WUXGA

Portability isn’t super important as I’ll primarily be using it at home. Having a good webcam is nice, but not a dealbreaker. I would like a longer battery life, but I understand that is affected by the programs I’m running and don’t mind charging it more accordingly.

I’d love to hear what laptops you recommend and why!

What is your budget?

I am an academic scientist and also do mostly reading and writing on my laptop. I’ve been eyeing the Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i aura or the newer Slim 7i ultra. There is also the ThinkPad x9. There are last gen Lunar Lake models as well as Panther Lake models coming out soon. I think there are 14” and 15” models of some but not of these. I would get one of those as my next laptop for reading, research, and writing. Maybe you’d like them too.

What’s your max budget?

The most I’d want to spend is $2,000 but if it was a little more, I could make that work.

I would recommend this one then

This is a very premium laptop that meets all of your criteria.
