IdeaPad Pro 5 or wait for Panther Lake?

Its no secret that Josh and the rest of the JustJosh crew love the Gen 10 IdeaPad Pro 16, and today it finally showed up in my country! And its price is actually very reasonable, its somehow cheaper than a (32GB RAM) RTX 5050 Legion 5!!!

But unfortunately, its an import which means no official Lenovo warranty :fearful:

On one hand, I kinda need a new laptop on this month for work (which includes video editing, heavy Photoshop & Figma work, and rendering small Blender objects as art assets for Photoshop/Figma), as my current 8 year old laptop is on its last legs

but on the other hand, buying a laptop right now, when there’s so many official warranty laptops coming out soon-ish that I’d want even more:

  • X7 & X9 Panther Lake laptops (the one with the good iGPU); including laptops like the HP Omnibook X and the Gen 11 IdeaPad Pro 5
  • 2025 Acer Swift X 14 (it has a RTX 5060 and a haptic touchpad!)
  • Strix Halo Asus TUF A14 (its Strix Halo on a budget laptop)

doesnt seem very wise…..

The maximum I can wait is April 2026 (as my birthday is 26 April), so do you guys think I should just get the 2025 IdeaPad Pro 5 right now, or wait until new 2026 laptops start showing up?

If you really need it for work urgently then go for it, because panther lake laptops are around the corner, but they may be more expensive than the laptop you’re currently looking

tho losing Lenovo’s 3 year warranty really really stinks, almost a dealbreaker by itself tbh

buy the Panther lake. The difference between arrow lake and panther lake is quite huge. The best part about panther lake is that it is powerful but battery efficient at the same time, also the igpu in it is a big upgrade. As per Intel’s charts I can play most of my games on 1200p medium -high and still get 60+ frames. This is the sole reason I’m keeping up with my broken MSI laptop. I am buying a panther lake laptop as soon as josh finishes giving real reviews of the newer laptops.

Looks like you’re based in Indonesia. Even if pantherlake laptops are being released before April there are three main issues:

  • We have no real info of pantherlake asides from Intel’s press so you’re gambling that Intel won’t mess this release up
  • Add another month or two before stores in Indonesia has stock of the new laptops
  • When the new stuff does arrive, it is ALWAYS sold at MSRP for at least another 6 months

True that it’ll realistically take a while before Panther Lake shows up here

tho man buying a laptop without any warranty, esp missing out on the best warranty in the industry, is always so risky….

also hi, didnt expect anyone else from Indo here
