ASUS Zenbook S16 for Java Backend: Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 vs. Ryzen AI 9 465

Hi everyone! I’m a beginner/junior dev looking for a portable 16-inch laptop for Java Backend development (IntelliJ, Docker, Spring Boot). I’ve narrowed it down to two ASUS Zenbook S16 configurations:

  • 2025 Version: Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 (12 cores), 32GB RAM. Price: ~$1,880.

  • 2026 Version: Ryzen AI 9 465 (10 cores), 32GB RAM. Price: ~$1,686.
    (Note: Prices may be higher due to my local market/import taxes, so I’m mostly comparing these two options relative to each other).

The dilemma:

  • The 2026 version is cheaper, but it has a plain lid design which I find less appealing than the 2025 “A-line” aesthetic.

  • Is the 12-core performance and better design worth the extra ~$200 for my use case? Or should I save the money and go with the newer 10-core model?

  • Should I consider something else entirely for my goals (portability + Java dev)?

(I’ve only just started researching the laptop market, so please go easy on me if I’m missing something obvious! :P)

The 370 has a better GPU. I’d go with the one you like the look of more tbh.

But for that price, there are better coding laptops out there. Why not get a Macbook? Others from the team @Nemusdark_HW and @cameron probably have suggestions too
