Just got home from Best Buy…

Hey, all!

I went to Best Buy today and came away with 3 laptops I am very interested in;

HP Omen Transcend

Lenovo Legion 5i

HP Omnibook X Flip

I REALLY liked the ProArt P16 and thought the Dell Premium looked very nice, but sadly, they’re both too expensive as I only have a $1400 budget. Still, it’s okay because I really like the look and feel of the options I have.

I wish I would’ve went to Best Buy earlier because the Legion was only $1299 with solid specs. Sadly, the price is back to $1800. I noticed the Intel is much more expensive than the Ryzen alternative.

I need help deciding between these 3 finalist. I just need a little help with specs. I don’t really plan on gaming, but I want to have the option available as things could change in the next couple years. You never know. I used to play Halo on my old Acer Chromebook Plus 16 GE on campus, in-between classes.

I begin teaching this fall and I plan on taking IT classes over the summer, learning to code and Excel as well. I’ll be using Canva, PowerPoint, and Google Slides a ton amongst whatever else required for my IT classes.

Which versions/specs of these laptops should I consider? Also, should I purchase a 14 or 16 inch? Lastly, is the Intel really that much better than the Ryzen to command a few hundreds more?

Thanks!

The Ryzen chip is powerful but not as powerful as the Intel with the HX. Using Canva, PowerPoint, and Google Slides is a piece of cake for the Ryzen chip. If you’re thinking of learning coding languages for programming then the Intel chip would be a better fit, but if you just want to do excel or ppt or things like that then the Ryzen chip is enough.

I like the 14 inch form factor but for excel it is better for you to get a 16 inch screen. My only suggestion would be to get 32 GB of RAM that way multitasking would be a breeze.

Thanks! For my potential gaming usage, will the Ryzen suffice? Or do I need to go Intel?

Clearly depends on the game. But usually the Intel chip is better in terms of gaming. If we compare the power draw between the Ryzen chip and the Intel chip then the Ryzen chip is more power efficient than the Intel chip. Hence if you buy the model with an Intel chip then don’t expect a lot of battery life. 4-5 MAX. The Ryzen chip may give you up to 7 hrs if you run it in low powered mode.
