Premium Laptop for mainly School and Gaming on the side

I’ve been using Linux for a while and the support for gaming laptops have been greatly increased since last time I researched laptops so now my options for a laptop have opened up greatly. What I need is basically a laptop that I can use for a long time while unplugged to use for school, but when I get home I can plug it in and still do some gaming.

Let’s get down to business, I need:

  • A Premium Feel with preferably black or maybe silver color

  • High Quality Trackpad and Screen

  • Relatively Lightweight (I don’t want one of those super beefy laptops)

  • Maximum screen size of 16"

  • Minimum screen size of 14"

  • Sleek Design, want to try and avoid obnoxious RGB on the cover, but I understand that most can be turned off so it is not a huge deal.

  • Long lasting battery life

  • Decent specs, I don’t need anything crazy

  • Repairability like SSD or RAM slots

  • Budget is about $2,000

For somewhere to start, I was looking at the ASUS TUF A14 last time.

I think the 2026 Legion 5i with Panther Lake is the best option, no RGB, long battery life and about the same build quality as the TUF, I’m just not sure about pricing in your country so you might have to check that out, it’s a bit over your budget in Malaysia pricing

This one is on sale right now, but it only has 16 GB of RAM. You may want to wait on a sale on Lenovo Legion 7i or Legion 7 pro, or an Acer Helios neo 16

The Asus TUF 14 is not a bad option at all; it’s cheaper and feels good.
