I am a college freshman looking for a new laptop. My current laptop a dell xps 15 (9520) now has battery problems and lasts around 2hr and for some reasons goes from 40% to 5% instantly.
I am looking for a new laptop with a budget around $2,000. I was mainly considering either a Asus ProArt, but heard that the reliability on those laptops are bad and are plagued with many problems. But is that still the case?
Another option I looked at was the Zephyrus G14 or G16.
Is there any other options you guys recommend
(Also no Macbooks, as some of the software requires Windows)
Firstly, Congratulations on completing highschool and getting into college. Your XPS most probably had gone through many charge cycles, that resulted in battery degradation. That’s why you’re getting 2 hrs of battery.
I haven’t heard any problems from any ProArt P16 user. Although I remember an X post from someone in India, he bought an ASUS Strix for $3500 with maxed out components. His laptop got motherboard problems and according to him ASUS doesn’t give good customer support. As a student you must need something reliable. Check if ASUS has good customer support in your locality.
The Asus zephyrus G16 is good
The G13 is small and has heating issues.
You can look into Lenovo legion. Or the Lenovo yoga 7i or 9i
I would look for a good sale on a Asus Zephyrus G16, that laptop pairs really well for your use case, as for ProArt problems I have not heard any recent complains so if you find one for a good discount it may be worth checking it out
Look, the zephyrus G14 and the proart PX13 have heating issues because they fit in a lot of heavy heat generating components in a small chassis with not enough cooling- hence avoid any of these 13 inch/ 14 inch models.
I would suggest the 5070 version as they’ve made some improvements this year. If you do gaming I recommend the 3k 120hz model. The 5070 can’t push 4k for gaming.
