As the header suggests, I’m looking for a laptop that’s both great for gaming and yet portable enough to bring it with me to university. What comes to my mind at first would be the Zephyrus series, but they are way over my budget of 2500 EUR (about 2900 USD ish).
Close seconds would be the Lenovo IdeaPad Pro 5i, HONOR MagicBook Pro 14 and the Macbook Pro 14, the latter one being my last option due to not having any other Apple devices that it could work with.
Do you guys have any other suggestions that might work? I mainly would use it for programs like Davinci Resolve or the Adobe Creative Suite, while playing games like Cities: Skylines, Persona, Minecraft and sometimes Battlefield. Help would be really appreciated!
Consider these alternatives, HP Omen Transcend 14 or Asus TUF Gaming A14, The Razer blade 14 can be a good choice too but It may be more expensive than the Zephyrus.
Yeah, it’s just shy about 2600 or even 2700 EUR. Oof.
But I’ll definitely consider all three, thank you! I’ll put Razer on last for now, due to QC issues they seem to have. Also my max budget would be 2500 EUR as I’ve stated, but I can live with paying a hundred bucks more.
Cities: Skylines, Minecraft, & creative apps generally would eat 16 GB of RAM for breakfast. I would either look at a 16 inch laptop that has 32 GB at purchase or that could be upgraded post purchase, or you’ll have to spend more for the Zephyrus imo. I don’t think 16 GB of RAM will cut it for your use cases unfortunately…
As for 14 inch laptops, unfortunately, I can’t think of any in that price range with enough RAM…
Firstly, the games you want to run in your laptop are Cities: Skylines, Persona, Minecraft and Battlefield. These are very low demanding games and even with modern intel igpus you can play each game on high settings easily.
Now, for DaVinci resolve i have no idea how big your projects would look like. If you will not be working on 4k projects then an igpu would suffice, anything around professional 1080p/ 1440p editing, light 4K editing (with proxies) can handle multi layer timelines without sweat (non Raw footage). Adobe apps can be run concurrently thanks to the 32 GB of ram.
If your editing demands are higher then get anything with an RtX gpu. 4070 gpu laptops will be cheaper now, thanks to the release of 50 series laptops. I would advice to get an rtx laptop.
Since you emphasised on battery life, I would buy the Lenovo IdeaPad pro, or the Zephyrus G16, macbook pro could be perfect for you (in terms of battery life) but unfortunately your games have no macos support.
I have no idea of the prices in Europe, but lenovos are comparatively cheaper than the Zephyrus. Pick a laptop with 32 GB ram, nothing less.
Okiedoke, I’ve looked at a few options and would settle on these four:
ASUS ROG Zephyrus G16 (5070 Ti or 5080) - good laptop overall, but $$$
HP OMEN 14 (5070) - less VRAM on the graphics card, still a great pick though
Lenovo IdeaPad Pro 5 Gen 10 (5050) - exact same model in the video… maybe
Acer Swift X 14 (5070) - also less VRAM, better alternative than the HONOR
All of these have 32 GB RAM or more, just like it was suggested. Each of them seem like pretty great laptops to me, though I’ve also been looking for G16’s that have a 4080. There are a couple used ones here and there, but no new ones if I search for them on the web. Do I just have tough luck or are they THAT popular?
Enough yapping around though, lol. I’m actually leaning between the HP OMEN and the IdeaPad Pro 5, unless I suddenly find a older model Zephyrus lying around somewhere
Well the Zephyrus with 5070 Ti has 16 GB vram inside. Thats why it’s so $€¢¥ ( PS: i had no idea it looked like this When I use all the currencies on my keyboard.)
Although, does theideapad pro have a dgpu? If it has 8 GB vram then ig it’s okay for you.
