Hey guys!
I’m a M.D. based in Hungary, and I can’t decide what laptop I should buy - my budget is around 2000 USD. I’m pretty sure Lenovo Thinkpad X9-15 Aura Edition would be a good fit for me, as I mostly do productivity/basic stuff (onedrive, Microsoft Office, presentations, studying and web browsing) and I need a laptop that’s portable with good battery life and good screen. I also do some light gaming (e.g. Hearthstone, Civilization VI and VII etc.).
Do you guys think that this is a good fit?
Also, I’m hesitant whether I should buy the Intel Core Ultra 5 228V with 512 gb SSD version (right now around 1770 USD) or the Intel Core Ultra 7 258V with 1 TB SSD (1980 USD)
Sorry, forgot to mention I’m looking for a windows OS laptop (I was very satisfied with my Macbook Air M1, but it’s a pain working with these apps on a Mac, thus why I’m switching)
The thinkpad x9 15 would indeed be a great fit for your budget, the ultra 7 has a noticeably better igpu and is very capable for light gaming, if you would like a 20% increase in gpu performance compared to the ultra 5, then you will enjoy the ultra 7. If you do not mind these prices. As it seems Hungary has it on the pricy side.
I am also considering this laptop with the ultra 5 as it is on a good deal for my region.
Definitely a good pick. Go for the ThinkPad X9 but with. Core ultra 7 if possible as the igpu in the ultra 7 is capable for small- medium demanding games like the ones you mentioned.
Thank you guys so much for your replies!
Yeah, SSD-wise I’m not concerned, my only problem is whether the core ultra 5 is “enough“ for me or no.
But I’ve seen new deals, which has changed my perspective a bit:
I could get the lower end model for 1440 USD
I could get the higher end model for 1920 USD, so a lot more.
Does anyone have any experience with the lower end model and whether that 20% iGPU performance means all that much?
For just microsoft office, presentations and web browsing I believe the core ultra 5 is enough. For gaming though, the ultra 5 can give good gps but at the cost of system settings, so if you’re not a big fan of gaming and you can live with playing at 1080p medium then the core ultra 5 would suffice. Although, if you are thinking of keeping this laptop for 5+ years then I suggest you buy the core ultra 7 version as it will future proof you laptop. And how much RAM and SSD does it have? Ideally 32/24 GB RAM and 512 GB or 1 TB of storage. For productivity tasks RAM is very important.
