Best laptop for architects

Good afternoon,

Just I am a principal at a small architecture firm. I spend some time in Revit , sketchUP, adobe products and then the general Microsoft suite. I have an older13 in Microsoft surface laptop and am looking to upgrade. My ideal laptop is the MacBook Pro M5 Pro or max when they come out later this yearbut the revit compatibility issue is an issue. I didn’t know if the new XPS 14 fully spaced out or something with a dedicated Guy would be recommended. I like the style of the new xps a lot and feel like it will be more than sufficient but didn’t know if I am making a mistake here prioritizing battery and look and portability over performance

Thanks so much

Hey,

I am not a student pursuing architecture, hence I have no idea about the softwares you’re talking about. If you get a macbook and there is a software you usually work with (in your case Revit) which is not compatible with macos then you can run that same software in that macbook through windows Virtualization. It’s basically running windows in your macbook, the difference is that it’s not native windows hence things would run in it through layers of translation ( X86 to ARM). In simple words performance is lower than what you usually get on native windows and can be slow for heavy Revit use.

I truly believe that the perfect laptop is something like a macbook, great performance, great battery life all in a premium build. The next thing close to this is absolutely the XPS. To be honest I myself am confused whether to buy a macbook pro or the new XPS. I prioritize battery life that’s why I am a bit hesitant choosing the XPS.

I think a laptop with a good CPU, GPU and at least 32gb of ram is What you need for those programs, the question is do you want a portable but performant laptop? Or a laptop that performs the best without caring about portability.

I can recommend the Following:

Lenovo Legion 7i

Asus ROG Zephyrus G16

Lenovo Ideapad Pro 5

Lenovo Yoga Pro 9 16

Other portable options are Asus ROG Zephyrus G14

HP Omen Transcend 14

Asus TUF Gaming A14
