Requested video - customer service name and shame

I bought a OnePlus Open from a 3rd party retailer through Best Buy. I got an Omnibook Ultra Flip 14 from another 3rd party retailer, also from Best Buy. Both devices work fine, the former being refurbished “excellent” and the other open box. But in both cases the product page said I’d get things with the device I didn’t end up getting. For the phone, it was more egregious - they promised a screen protector, case, SIM card tray opener, and charger. Instead, I just got a charger and the tray opener. Customer service from the 3rd party retailer said I was just supposed to get a charging cable as that is somehow the policy for re-sales. I don’t know if that means for refurbished vs. open box vs. all 3rd party. Also, I got a charger and the SIM card tray opener, so clearly the policy wasn’t followed on the 3rd party seller’s end either??? They said Best Buy messed up and put irrelevant product information on the product page, but I highly doubt that. From where would Best Buy get the idea to invent such information? The retailer gave me $25 for goodwill, but I spent more than that on the case, and I’m honestly still unsure whether my phone has a screen protector or not, but don’t want to risk buying one that may leave bubbles or double applying or whatever. As for the Omnibook, I didn’t get the pen, but the retailer apologized and sent me one, but still, the red flags so far have been in the amenities, but it makes me worried for the products themselves.

manufacturers, retailers, and 3rd party retailers all get away with terrible customer service because users just don’t have time to go all out to bother them. It’s basically impossible to find a phone number to call for Google, Amazon, etc. They really need to be called out!!!

The retailers in my case, btw, were “Gorecell” for the phone and “PRO OB” for the laptop.

I agree. I have a really long story of how I had to deal with Dell with their XPS 15 9570; it was such a horror story that they eventually gave me a new laptop, twice, before giving me a new 9th gen model (7590), the one before the2020 redesign, because of voltage issues.

We need consumer protections more than ever. Thank goodness for advocates like iFixit, Gamers Nexus, and Josh.

Honestly Dell just can’t get out of its own way. HP remade itself into a brand on its way to competing with Lenovo for the A tier of Windows PCs (I guess Microsoft still holds S) but has consistent manufacturing defects, awful service, and insane bloatware (which TBF others have too). I don’t like any of the surface line much anymore but I’ve never had a bad customer service experience with Microsoft, although even their PCs have weird naggy issues with fans and speakers and stuff.
