Ordered the m4 Pro 12 core CPU, but the FOMO on the M5 is killing me

Hi,

I’m currently on the base M1 Air, and choosing my next Mac. I work as a web dev, I have multiple part-time jobs, so I mostly have about 6 chromes with an average of 10 tabs open. Slack, VS Code, VS Studio, Docker, DBeaver, GPT, Telegram, Discord, Whatsapp and Spotify are also always open. I game when I get the time, my last game was F1 2017, which got uninstalled due to storage limit.

Last week, I ordered the M4 Pro with the 12 core cpu with 24 GB of RAM and 512 GB of storage, which was on a $200 discount on Best Buy. Now, I am seeing that the 1 TB storage is not only bigger but also faster, and also the M5 GPU is way better than the M4. So, should I return the M4 and get an M5, or is it enough for my case? My budget is 2,200 - 2,400. And if so, which M5 should I get?

Forgot to mention, I also boot up Windows on Parallels desktop once a week

If you want to go for it and get the latest and greatest, go for it. M4 Pro vs M5 should be similar; M5 wins in single-core, and M4 Pro wins in multi-core.

I think the M4 Pro is sufficient for your tasks.

Storage speed doesn’t matter at this level of laptop. Its really whether you need the extra GPU performance. I’d say if you can get the M4 Pro cheaper by $200 to $300, i’d get that.
