Is this a good deal?

  1. Budget: $350

  2. Purchase Location: Fullerton College Store, California

  3. Use Cases: For my dad, mainly for emails, Word, PowerPoint, and general web browsing, no gaming or heavy workloads.

  4. Form Factor: 14” convertible 2-in-1 touchscreen laptop

  5. Prioritized Features: Good battery life (5–7 hours), touchscreen usability, comfortable keyboard, and decent build quality.

  6. Condition: Demo unit (used, no warranty)

  7. Time Frame: Since it is a single demo unit it would be sold out in 2-3 days. (I’m in no hurry to buy a laptop, can also wait till Black Friday) It’s just that the deal should be great and laptop should be touchscreen as my dad finds it fancy!

  8. Additional Details:
Looking at a Dell Inspiron 14 2-in-1 5410 (2021) demo unit for $350. Specs: Intel Core i7 (11th Gen), 16 GB DDR4, 512 GB PCIe SSD, Intel Iris Xe Graphics, 14″ FHD touch display, and ports including USB-A, USB-C (PD + DP), HDMI 1.4a, microSD slot, and both barrel + USB-C charging.

Do you think it’s worth buying in 2025 for light office work, given it’s a demo unit with no warranty?

I mean if it works it’s completely fine for your use case

I think that’s a bit overpriced for a 4-year-old laptop. I would really try to stretch your budget a bit and buy something new. Josh just reviewed an HP Omnibook 5 Flip with a more modern Intel CPU and 2-in-1 functionality that was on sale for $400 at Best Buy. It only has 8 GB of RAM, but for the intended usage, it will be sufficient. Plus, you’ll get a full warranty and an extended holiday return policy.

I have to agree with @saturnotaku here. If you can stretch your budget to this laptop here ($530) at the time of this post, I think you’ll get significantly more laptop for your money, as it has the same amount of RAM, but it’s signifcantly faster (DDR5 vs DDR4), the CPU is a bit newer (Intel Core 7 150U is Raptor Lake, but it beats Tiger Lake in most regards and allows for the faster DDR5 RAM on the HP), and unlike the Dell Inspiron, it is brand new, rather than a demo unit. The only downside is that the port selection is better on the Dell Inspiron you mentioned.

If I were you I would streach my budget and not buy this used demo unit. This is 4 years old and pretty much outdated. I would buy a 2024 model of the HP omnibook, or any other laptop from 2024 falling under the price point of 500$. Old laptops tend to go on sale a lot and I’m positive you’ll find a deal.

I think its extremely overpriced for a very old laptop. Not worth. Get the OmniBook 5 on a Black Friday sale:
