Dell XPS 15 9520 battery suddenly drops from 40% to 5% - Anyone else?

Hello,

I’ve noticed a weird issue with my Dell XPS 15 9520 lately. The battery, when it gets around to 40%(between 50% to 40%), suddenly jumps straight down to 5%. and throws up the low battery warning. Then, once I plug it in, it charges normally back through the whole range.

- Model: Dell XPS 15 (9520)

  • CPU: i7 12th gen
  • Ram: 16 GB
  • GPU: 3050

I’ve already tried recalibrating the battery (draining fully, charging to 100%), but when I do this, I have to go through BitLocker recovery. It issue happens every single time, it makes it hard to trust the battery percentage when working unplugged. And as a college student, it makes it hard to use.

Has anyone else had this problem, and what should I do?

Any fixes or tips would be appreciated!

Seems like you have an issue with your battery, I think it needs to be replaced

Is it worth getting a battery exchanged or buying a new, better laptop?

Reasonable choice would be to upgrade laptop altogether. Use this till panther lake laptops are released, then you can get the new chip laptop.

It depends of the cost, if it is to expensive to replace it then there is no point, you need to do some research first.
