Hi everyone,
I’m planning to buy a new laptop with a budget of around $1,790, and I want something that is truly future-proof and balanced for every kind of workload.
My goal is to get one machine that can handle everything smoothly, including:
-
AI workloads (preferably with a dedicated NPU for future Windows AI features) -
Gaming (modern AAA titles) -
Video editing & rendering -
AI development / machine learning experiments -
Programming & software development -
Graphic design -
Content creation (YouTube, social media, etc.) -
Office productivity -
Reasonable portability
I’m trying to target specs roughly around:
Preferred Specifications
-
CPU: Intel Core Ultra 9
-
RAM: 32GB DDR5 (5600MHz or higher)
-
Storage: 1TB NVMe SSD
-
GPU: NVIDIA RTX 5060 or better
-
Display: High quality panel (OLED / WQXGA / high color accuracy)
-
Good thermals and build quality
From what I’ve seen, RTX 5060 laptops should offer a noticeable performance jump over previous GPUs and support modern gaming and AI workloads thanks to improved tensor cores and GDDR7 memory.
However, I want to make sure I’m buying the best overall machine for the price, not just the best GPU.
My main priorities
-
Future-proof for upcoming AI features (Windows Copilot / NPU workloads)
-
Strong GPU for gaming and rendering
-
High quality display for content creation
-
Reliable thermals and build quality
-
Balanced machine (not just gaming-focused)
Questions
-
Which laptop models would you recommend in the ~$1790 range with these specs?
-
Should I prioritize Core Ultra 9 + NPU, or go with a stronger GPU instead?
-
Which brands currently have the best build + thermals?
(Legion, ROG, Predator, MSI, Alienware, etc.) -
Any specific models that are considered the best value right now?
I’m open to suggestions from brands like:
-
Lenovo Legion
-
ASUS ROG
-
Acer Predator
-
MSI Raider / Vector
-
Dell Alienware
If you were spending $1790 today, which laptop would you buy and why?
Thanks in advance for your suggestions ![]()
