Which laptop and configuration should I buy for Ml and Ai?

Hi.
I want to buy a laptop for apps, AI development, and ML. I want it to last me at least 3 to 4 years. I don’t know which laptop to buy: a MacBook or a Windows laptop. I mostly do image processing and biotechnology projects like molecule docking, etc.
Which one would you suggest?
I also spend a lot of time using my laptop and moving.

I’m also working on a diet app that uses microbiome data to give food/diet advice. I do wanna add this figure where the user can take a picture of his/her food and get info about it and some tips to make it better,

Please help me buy the best laptop it’s so important for me. Thanks, everyone.

Realistically you want an NVidia laptop with as much VRAM as you can afford.

So for my job, you think a MacBook is not a good option? I can spend something between 2500 to 3000

For Portability macbooks are the undisputed winner. But as per your task, like image processing,etc. Metal framework (apple’s version of cuda) is not that great for image processing, it’s in its developing stage. Although anything except CNNs and image processing can be achieved in a macbook.

You can either:-

  1. Get a macbook air for everyday use and use the rest of the money for a desktop with an rtx gpu(for cuda).
  2. Get any laptop with the 50 series gpu. Like the zhepherus G16.

you can do CNNs and vision learning in your desktop and everything else on the macbook air. Or get the zhepherus G16.

The gaming laptop would cost you 1600-1700 USD, the macbook + desktop setup would cost you around 2200 USD.

If money is not a problem then go with the macbook + desktop setup.

I asked others and they told me you’re job is mostly fine-tuning and Mac is a great option for you. What do you think?

Well as I said, the mac can do everything except huge vision processing. If the image processing work you do is not much then you can definitely go for a macbook pro. In your budget you can buy a new macbook M4 pro, or you could wait a few days and the m5 macbook pros would be released.

No need for a desktop+ macbook setup. Just get the macbook pro for 2000 bucks. If it’s okay with you. Macbook airs are also good but it has its own downgrades. Like sustained performance would be low, etc. go check the youtube channel that I recommended. It will help you.
