We currently lower each laptop’s brightness to 200 nits when we run our battery tests. This is pretty low. Suitable for use on an airplane or somewhere like that. Most screens are now 300 to 500 nits of brightness. Do you think we should up that to 300 nits?
Yes, I would keep the brightness up higher than 200 nits for the battery test. 300 nits sounds reasonable, and should still be in the range of the laptops you’re testing.
Indeed, if @JustJosh doesn’t need to use the same number for testing, then I think the best thing is to choose a fraction of the full range. I like 1/2 as a choice.
What about ranges? If not, higher brightness is better. Generally a good idea to be conservative with battery life estimates. I for one want to know I’m getting a genuine, serious full-day of battery life and be pleasantly surprised when I’m not in battery saver at the end of the day than the alternative.
