Have you ever clicked on an ad?

When I was a kid, I was basically taught to assume any ad I clicked was probably a virus. Might have been overkill, but for a kid, better be safe than sorry. To date, I can count on one hand the number of times I have deliberately clicked on an ad. I rarely google the things I see in ads, because I hate ads, and it usually makes me hate what is being advertised. The same goes for ads in my socials feeds or YouTube ads.

Who is clicking on all these ads? Who is buying their stuff? Is there any demographic info on this?

Curious - so here’s a poll. I click on digital ads (socials, YouTube, etc.):

  • several times a day
  • several times a week
  • several times a month
  • several times a year
  • very rarely
  • never

I can’t for the life of me remember any time I’ve ever clicked an ad intentionally, maybe a misclick here or there, but never because I was interested in what was advertised.

I think you are missing an option “I accidentally clicked it because I was tricked”

Some of those ads make me want to wonder if these are scams… They’re often weight loss scams or back in the day

I only get ads about kitchen appliances and furniture if I turn off ad blockers. I understand the point of advertisement, but I don’t want the level of advertisement that is being pushed into every square inch of the internet nowadays.
