I’m a nursing student looking for a 15"-16" laptop at a good price. It cannot be Apple because it does not work well with my ecosystem and it doesn’t work with my schools portal because they made their own. The problem that I’m having is yes the XPS 13 would be a great choice but the screen feels too small for me when it comes to reading text and looking at diagrams. I am currently using the standard model Galaxy book 4 which does not have enough battery life for what I’m looking for because my class days can go from 9am to 4pm. I tried using y’all’s cite but when I click on nursing majors and look at laptops I still get a little lost on what I should be looking for. I am also looking for a opinions because so far the one that I am thinking on getting is the Thinkpad X9 15 Arua editiona which would be 1,400$ currently for the 1,759$ model. I am only in RN school and hope to get a doctorate so I would rather spend the extra money now than be back here in 3 years from now. I don’t know much about how my galaxy 4 laptop because my parents got it for me so maybe I am being ridiculous in wanting a newer one. I’ll take any guidance I can get at this point.
I would have suggested an Asus VivoBook or ZenBook, but you mentioned longevity, and your best bet when it comes to long term my go to recommendation is always a ThinkPad. So what you mentioned, the X9 15, is a good deal. If you can find any laptop with a Snapdragon processor, that might be great because their battery life is actually awesome!
So, long story short.
Want something nice and light and premium feel? ASUS Zenbook S16 or A16 or just 16. they are all good.
Want something that you are sure will last you a long, long time. Go for the Lenovo ThinkPad X9 15p. Or the x9 15p if you want to splurge.
Want something Lenovo but still looks nice? Go for the Lenovo Yoga 7i Slim.
I chose these because they are lighter than others and do have a good screen.
My recommendation? x9 15 cuz it’s a ThinkPad. It’s like a Toyota but in the laptop world
(I don’t know if you should get a Snapdragon processor or not though. I don’t have much knowledge about its long term use and how long they will last you, but they are good at saving your battery from day to day.)
I forgot to mention the Surface Laptop. It’s light and premium and has a good battery. If I could buy it for myself, I would get that 100%. But if something breaks, good luck fixing it :D.
With the Surface does it make that big of a difference between the Snap Dragon Plus and the Elite if I want to save the 100$?
Nevermind I went and looked at Josh’s video on it and he points out that the plus got 11 hours while the elite got 15 hours of battery life so that answers that question.
Someone said Zenbook or Thinkpad, those are the two that pop to mind for sure. Thinkpad will probably last longer whereas the Zenbook is a minor gamble, some last two years while some last forever. I prefer ASUS software and design so would skew that way.
Lenovo’s Yoga series also deserves a look, the Pro 5 can come with graphics if that’s something you could use.
Otherwise a power bank?
