# Macbook air m5 24gb ram for programming

Hi, I am a developer and I am thinking of buying a macbook. The most heavy workloads I do often include either android emulator running with figma, chrome or docker containers.  
I am thinking of buying macbook air m5 with ram upgraded to 24gb. Macbook pro is not within my budget.  
Is this a good option?

Hi Arav, I am also a developer and I use a MacBook Air M1 with 8 GB RAM. For your use case, a MacBook Air M5 with 24 GB would be very good. I use (lightly though) Android emulator, Figma and Docker containers, and RAM is 100% the only bottleneck in my workflow(spawns 15% of the times). That said, I’ll consider even a MacBook Pro M4 with 16GB RAM or M4 Pro with 24GB RAM as better options. More than the screen, speakers and the ports, you’ll get fans which will be helpful for long sessions(Not a problem with my MacBook, but I’ve heard the newer ones run warmer).

Yeah, listen to him: I would prioritize an older M4 MacBook Pro with plenty of RAM.
